About Drew,
After developing an interest in photography early on I attended college and then on to university where I gained a bachelors degree in fine art film and photography from there I began to build my business working at the wedding, portrait and commercial Photographer and Videographer. But as anybody who has tried to build a business or to work within this industry it was not a straightforward journey along the way I took many different jobs to fund the construction of my business and tried my hand at almost every type of photography and videography.
Having overcome a few challenges I eventually built a successful wedding and commercial business. By chance I was asked to produce a film about biodiversity and wildlife within a localised area and I thoroughly enjoyed creating this film, the experience of being isolated within nature and able to observe events or behaviours that are normally unnoticed or hidden from humans was such a freeing feeling I decided to pursue this genre. Initially I started out just taking photographs of nature can I quickly realised that my abilities as a filmmaker could also be applied to wildlife photography.
Whenever I tackle a new genre of photography or filmmaking I start with research. For my wildlife photography although it would be easy to sit and watch hours and hours of David Attenborough on the BBC and their stunning footage of wildlife from around the world it didn’t make sense to me to start by looking at the best of the best because my experience and abilities were unlikely to match the production value and would only lead to disappointment. And so I tend to YouTube and a lot of independent wildlife photographers who were closer matched to what I would be able to achieve with the equipment and resources available to me. This quickly led to an obsession. I must’ve watched every wildlife documentary, Vlog and behind the scenes video on the platform. I then decided to set up my own YouTube channel where I would post a diverse range of a Videos to follow me on my journey as I learned a new skill.
