Photographing Deer

Capturing photographs of Deer at Sunrise.

There has always been something quite magical to me about a photograph of a stag standing tall backlit in the sunrise. Having grown up relatively close to Woburn Abbey Gardens and Deer Park, it was something I unknowingly took for granted until recently. I decided after hearing the weather reports, to try and capture this idyllic photo whilst we had a spell of frost. Quite often when the morning is frosty it will indicate that we are in for a bright and clear sunrise. To achieve the backlit shot that I had in my mind the conditions were critical as I needed bright sunlight clear skies and a light frost on the ground thankfully that’s exactly what I got.

I arrived just before sunrise end made the rookie mistake of not driving through the deer park to locate the day before grabbing my camera and parking up which meant that I spent a good 30 minutes walking around the Deer Park looking for the herd of deer in doing this I did discover that there is a Kingfisher resident on the pond so this is perhaps something that I can return to at a later date.
